Parkside Mall, a redeveloped retail complex at the heart of the Gongbei border area in Zhuhai, a city in South China’s Guangdong province, drew more than 2.54 million visitors in the first month of operation, achieving a total revenue exceeding 100 million yuan ($14.7 million).

Leveraging the economic advantages of its location, the revamped shopping mall, invested by Zhukuan Group, has quickly become a popular destination for cross-border visitors between Zhuhai and Macao, with 15 percent of the total visitors are from Hong Kong and Macao.

In 2025, the foot traffic at Gongbei border area was approximately 123 million, with daily peaks surpassing 440,000 and an average daily flow exceeding 336,000. With the Zhuhai Railway Station's daily traffic of 68,000 passengers, the area sees a daily traffic of over 400,000 people.

Parkside Mall, just 300 meters from the inspection building of Gongbei Port and a 15-minute walk to Macao, offers over 1,000 parking spaces.

“We opted for a comprehensive business model to reduce consumer decision-making costs,” said Zhao Chunli, operation manager of Parkside Mall. The 63,000-square-meter mall hosts 122 merchants, with over 60 percent being first-time stores, including the largest Super Miniso in South China, Zhao said, adding the main store, Hema Fresh, caters to the local demand for fresh food and addresses the cross-border fresh food transport challenges faced by Macao residents.

The mall also features a Hong Kong and Macao Visitor Service Center, providing Cantonese-speaking staff for consultation, navigation, and travel guidance to help Macao visitors.

By introducing familiar labeling and exploring cross-border consumer rights protection mechanisms, the mall supports Macao Pass and MPay, ensuring seamless cross-border transactions.

Parkside Mall reflects the accelerating cooperation between Zhuhai and Macao, promising a new chapter of integrated living and economic integration between them.
