The Xiangzhou District Science and Technology School, formed by merging the former Zhuhai Sci-Tech Middle School and Tongchang Primary School, will begin operations in the upcoming semester as the first public nine-year compulsory general school in Xiangzhou district, Zhuhai, Guangdong province, according to an official recruitment notice released on Aug 21.

Planned concurrently and located east of the Zhuhai Bridge, the two campuses opened in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Tongchang Primary School has been operating from the middle school campus as its own facility remains under construction. The phase I project is scheduled to be delivered in Aug 2027, which will bring about a significant expansion of the integrated school's total area.

The merger marks Xiangzhou's first foray into the public nine-year school model, which has already been rolled out in other Zhuhai districts. The system enables integrated curriculum design, cross-grade teaching research and coordinated enrollment allocation, responding to shifting student demand between primary and junior high levels.
