The new high-standard intelligent Xiangzhou Grain Depot began operation in Jinding Industrial Park on Aug 31, offering strong support for ensuring Zhuhai's food security, stabilizing grain supply, as well as balancing regional grain supply and demand.

Construction of the Xiangzhou Grain Depot was launched in January 2021 by the Xiangzhou District Government and was undertaken by Guangdong Nanyue Zhengfang Construction, aiming to meet surging grain reserve demands as the grain depots in Xiangzhou were scattered, with most of them being built in the 1970s and 1980s.

Covering land area of about 30,000 sqm (7.4 acres), the newly operated grain depot has six 38-m (125-ft) high grain canisters and each of them has an external diameter of 24 m (26 yd). Compared with traditional single-story depots, the grain canisters of the same floorage can increase the grain storage by four to five times and are capable to meet grain storage demands in the next five to 10 years.

Temperature measuring lines were installed inside the grain canisters to collect temperature and humidity data at any time, while the materials used inside applied lightning protection design, making them adaptable to the frequent thunderstorms in South China. 

The grain depot also includes smart ventilation, quantity detection, and internal circulation temperature control features. In case of environmental changes outside the grain canisters, the intelligent temperature control system will automatically start to ensure stable temperature.
