The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Zhuhai Port inspected over 11,000 vehicles on Aug 20, marking the 12th time this year it broke the record for the highest daily traffic volume.
The number of passengers handled that day exceeded 77,000, achieving a three-year high.
Since August, the average daily vehicle inspections and release volume at Zhuhai Port has approached 9,600 vehicles. Since the first day with over 10,000 vehicles entering and exiting - on Aug 6 - the daily traffic volume has exceeded 10,000 vehicles six consecutive times. On Aug 18-20 alone, the number went over 10,000 for three consecutive days.
With the increasing popularity of cross-border visits, the passenger flow at Zhuhai Port continues to grow. Since August, the number of inbound and outbound travelers passing through has exceeded 1.1 million people, an increase of about 80 percent compared with 2019 - reaching the highest level since the opening of the HZMB.
The convenient customs clearance is a prerequisite for residents of Hong Kong and Macao to favor the northbound travel option.
To cope with the high traffic volume, the customs inspection sites at Zhuhai Port have upgraded their one-stop customs inspection and verification subsystem. They've increased the maximum hourly vehicle release capacity to 660 vehicles and improved the release efficiency by 30 percent compared with previous years.
