Zhuhai city - located in South China's Guangdong province - was recently ranked first among all nine Pearl River cities and fifth among 168 key cities in China in terms of air quality.

That's according to a report on national air quality from January to August 2023, released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

During the period, the comprehensive Air Quality Index or AQI in Zhuhai was 2.48. That was much better than the averages for Guangdong province, the Pearl River Delta and the non-Pearl River Delta zone, which were 2.71, 2.84 and 2.61, respectively.

During the same period, Zhuhai's AQI compliance rate reached 93.4 percent, with 152 days classified as excellent and 75 days as good.

Among the six air quality indicators, particulate matter measuring equal to or less than 2.5 micrometers (PM 2.5) in diameter, was recorded at 17 micrograms per cubic meter.

That with a diameter of 10 microns or less (PM 10) was recorded at 31 micrograms per cu m, ozone at 148 micrograms per cu m, nitrogen dioxide at 16 micrograms per cu m, sulfur dioxide at five micrograms per cu m and carbon monoxide at 0.6 milligrams per cu m.
