Household appliances manufacturer Gree Electric Appliances gave a presentation on China's green and low-carbon development at a major international conference being held in the Middle East.

During the ongoing 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – running from Nov 30 to Dec 12 in Dubai – China's delegation organized a series of activities under the theme of "China's Role."

Dong Mingzhu, chairperson and president of Gree Electric Appliances – based in the Xiangzhou district of Zhuhai – attended the meeting as a representative of enterprises in South China's Guangdong province.

She delivered a keynote speech, showcasing China's achievements in green and low-carbon development in the manufacturing industry.

Gree Electric Appliances introduced its "Make the Sky Bluer and the Earth Greener" strategy in 2013 – and it has been following green and energy-saving principles in innovation, research and development ever since.

The enterprise now holds the rights to 40 leading global technologies, 38 of which are related to green and energy-saving practices. What's more, its products have been exported to over 190 countries and regions worldwide, with over 110,000 patents applied for.

After a decade of technological research and development, Gree is said to have pioneered the world's first "zero carbon source" air conditioning system.

It says this can reduce carbon emissions from air conditioning by 85.7 percent.

Since its launch, nearly 10,000 sets of air conditioners with this technology have been purchased by consumers in the Middle East, resulting in an annual carbon reduction estimated at 110,000 metric tons.

Currently, the innovative system has been implemented in more than 35 countries and regions worldwide, covering 12,000 or more engineering projects.

Dong also talked about how Gree had achieved zero carbon emissions on the production side by digitizing and greening various aspects – such as management, quality and standards. That's through the independent development of industrial internet software, control systems, CNC machine tools and industrial robots.

Gree's self-built recycling system for renewable resources has processed over 47 million discarded electronics products, resulting in carbon reduction estimated at about 2.25 million tons.

By coordinating production, consumption and recycling ends, the group is said to be able to achieve the full-cycle green, circular and sustainable development of its products.
