On Feb 27, the inaugural flight ceremony for the eVTOL air traffic route took place in Zhuhai. The Shengshilong, a 5-seater compound-wing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, simulated a family's journey, flying between Zhuhai's Jiuzhou Port and Shenzhen's Shekou Port.
With the support of this aircraft, a ground journey of 3 hours can be shortened to a 20-minute flight. This "taxi in the sky" does not rely on traditional airports or runways, as it is capable of vertical takeoff and transitioning to fixed-wing mode for high-speed cruising. It is anticipated to emerge as a new transportation option for urban and intercity travel.
The Shengshilong electric aircraft can carry five passengers. Its core module is 100 percent domestically produced, with a cruising speed of up to 200 km per hour. In 2023, it set a global record for a 2-ton eVTOL, flying 250.3 kilometers on a single charge, and achieved the world's first full-size verification of a multi-aircraft, multi-crew, same airspace, full-conversion eVTOL mission with three aircraft in formation.
