Zhuhai's Xiangzhou ranks 30th in 2024 top 100 districts list

On Aug 2, the CCID Consulting's Center for Urban Economy Research released its "2024 Top 100 Districts" list, with Zhuhai's Xiangzhou district securing the 30th position nationwide, up six spots from last year.

The list is based on a high-quality development evaluation system focusing on five indicators - economic strength, growth potential, endogenous support, regional capacity, and shared development. The listed districts must have a GDP exceeding 80 billion yuan ($11 billion) and general public budget revenue of more than 2 billion yuan.

The report highlights that in 2024, the top 100 districts have become even more crucial in supporting the economic development of their respective cities and regions. The average urban primacy index of these districts to their cities is 16.2 percent, with Xiangzhou district's urban primacy index leading at 43.8 percent.

Xiangzhou district also recently released its economic performance data for the first half of 2024. During this period, the district achieved a GDP of 100.58 billion yuan, marking a 4.1 percent year-on-year increase and surpassing 100 billion yuan in the first half of the year for the first time.

The added value of large-scale industries reached 33.07 billion yuan, up 10.6 percent year-on-year, continuing its double-digit growth trend since the beginning of the year. Additionally, the district's total foreign trade import and export volume was 55.27 billion yuan, an increase of 17.5 percent from the previous year, a 15-percentage-point improvement from the first quarter.
