The autumn courses of "Chinese Culture Learning" series will start on October 14, 2024! In this term, considering the suggestions and needs of previous students, we’ve made some updates and will launch three courses, namely “Traditional Chinese Painting/Calligraphy Learning”, “Baduanjin/Tai Chi Exercise” and “Mandarin Corner”. Each of the three courses has ten sessions. Each session has an independent theme. New members are welcomed to join the class anytime before the next session begins.

The specific time and content of each course are arranged as follows:

Traditional Chinese Painting/Calligraphy Learning

2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Every Monday

(In case of statutory holidays, it will be postponed for one week.)

Note: Materials (brush, ink, rice paper etc.) used in the painting/calligraphy classes will be self-prepared in advance.

About the Teacher

Du Yifan (Lan Xiang)

• Calligrapher, painter and writer, invited lecturer of Chinese painting for public lectures in Beijing;

• Published works: A Collection of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Works of Du Yifan and Wandering in the Starry Sky;

• She published four paintings, at the age of 8 and 9, in the art textbooks for nine-year compulsory education;

• She has twice won the gold medal of the National Painting Competition sponsored by the former Ministry of Culture of China and the China Artists Association;

• She held solo exhibitions in the capital of Sweden and other places in 2012;

• In 2018, she won the "National Excellent Instructor Award" and was invited to write Spring couplets at the "2018 Chinese Poetry Spring Festival Gala" held by the National Library Arts Center;

• She has taught Chinese painting at regional cultural centers in Beijing for many years and has held many teaching achievements exhibitions;

•In 2020, she opened "Lan Xiang’s Classes" on the network to teach Chinese painting;

• At present, she teaches calligraphy and Chinese painting at Guangdong Open University Zhuhai Campus and calligraphy at Zhuhai’s cultural centers;

• Majored in Literature Translating when studied in the UK

/Note:

Please prepare Tai Chi suit/exercise clothes in advance. If you don’t have such clothing, it is recommended to wear loose sportswear and flat shoes.

The 90-minute sessions will be held outdoors in the garden. Sun protection and water are suggested.

Outdoor programs may be canceled at any time due to weather conditions, including rain, lightning, or strong winds.

About the Teacher

Yang Xiuqion

• Instructor of Doumen District Tai Chi Association

• She began to learn Tai Chi in 2013, mainly practicing Yang-style Tai Chi, Sun-style Tai Chi, Taiji Sword 42 Form and Chen-style Tai Chi Sabre.

• She has won a number of awards in provincial, municipal, district and Pearl River Delta competitions.

• In 2018, she established "Doumen Qiaoli TCM Hospital Tai Chi Team", which currently has 37 members.

Teaching Team

Teachers for “Mandarin Corner” have been invited by the Translators Association of Zhuhai (TAZH), a partner unit of Huafa Community. After several rounds of screening by the Center, three undergraduates majoring in TCSOL from Zhuhai College of Science and Technology (ZCST) were selected to provide volunteer Chinese teaching service on behalf of TAZH.
