The 2nd Xiangshan Rowing Open commenced on Feb 22, featuring 30 rowing teams from 13 universities, including the University of Hong Kong, the University of Macau, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, and Sun Yat-sen University.

In the men's eight-oared with coxswain 1,000-meter race, the championship was claimed by the rowing team from Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, while the Hunan Normal University and Jimei University teams claimed victory in the men's and women's quadruple sculls events, respectively.
The 5,000-meter pursuit race was a showcase of stamina and strategy, with the Chinese Culture University team emerging victorious through their consistent performance.

Rowing, one of the oldest Olympic sports, has a rich history, with the first intercollegiate race held in 1829 between Oxford and Cambridge on the River Thames.
Zhong Wenyao (1861-1945), a native of Xiangshan county, made history as the coxswain for Yale University's rowing team in the late 19th century, leading them to victories over Harvard University and etching his name into the annals of world rowing history.
