Xiangzhou experiences tourism, consumption surge during May Day holiday

Xiangzhou district, Zhuhai saw a tourism and consumption boom during the May Day holiday, with shopping hubs, landmarks, and hotels bustling with activity.

The district drew crowds through creative events, including themed installations and animal interactions. The Urban Balcony recorded over 100,000 daily visitors. Retailers like the Zhuhai Duty-Free Shopping Mall boosted sales with discounts and immersive activities, driving a 7 percent rise in member spending.

The hospitality sector also thrived, with hotels reporting over 85 percent occupancy and many fully booked days in advance as people were drawn by the convenience of travel and bundled dining offers.

Meanwhile, the dining scene saw explosive growth, with local brands like Jianye Tea Collection and Dawan Xiaoyue restaurant witnessing revenue spikes and packed reservations, fueled by demand for regional flavors and innovative fusion cuisine.

Cross-border travel also hit historic highs, with Zhuhai's ports handling 823,000 trips on May 2. Gongbei Port saw 439,000 crossings, a six-year peak.

Visitors from different places praised the coastal charm and family-friendly amenities of Xiangzhou, from free beach toys to pet supplies.
