Since its official opening in October 2018, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB) Zhuhai Highway Port has handled more than 90 million travelers and over 18.68 million vehicles as of Sept 15, 2025.
In recent years, passenger and vehicle flows via the HZMB have maintained strong momentum. Annual passenger traffic reached 16.3 million in 2023, surged to 27 million in 2024, and has already surpassed 21.2 million so far in 2025, a 19 percent year-on-year increase. For the first time, annual passenger traffic is expected to exceed 30 million this year.
Policy incentives have further fueled this growth. With the continued expansion of the Chinese mainland cities eligible for the "Individual Visit Scheme" to Hong Kong and Macao, alongside Zhuhai's implementation of the "One Trip to Macao per Week" program, demand for cross-border tourism has surged. Since the beginning of this year, more than 9.01 million visitors from the Chinese mainland have traveled to Hong Kong and Macao via the Zhuhai Highway Port of the HZMB.
The bridge has dramatically reduced travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from three hours by road to just 30 minutes. Increasingly, Hong Kong and Macao residents are using the HZMB to visit the Chinese mainland for leisure, business, study tours, family visits, retirement, and work.
In 2019, the Zhuhai Highway Port recorded around 4.5 million cross-border trips by Hong Kong and Macao residents; by 2024, this number had grown to 16.2 million. Since the start of 2025, crossings have already exceeded 12.7 million, and the full-year total is projected to surpass 18 million.
Since 2023, qualified Hong Kong and Macao residents have been allowed to drive single-plate private cars into the Chinese mainland through the Zhuhai Highway Port. To date, the HZMB Border Inspection Station has processed over 7.17 million such vehicle trips.
