The 800-year-old Nanping village in Zhuhai's Xiangzhou district, Guangdong province, is poised to see a significant transformation aimed at enhancing its cultural appeal and visitor experience.

According to a planning announcement released by Zhuhai's natural resources bureau on April 15, the second phase of the Nanping Village Historic Conservation Area's revitalization project is set to commence soon.

The project will see the construction of a new tourist service center and a village history museum, alongside essential cultural tourism amenities. A key feature of the plan is an underground parking facility with 300 spaces, designed to accommodate the growing number of visitors to the ancient site.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by Xiangzhou to develop the Nanwan area into Zhuhai's premier cultural and museum district. The plan emphasizes the protection and adaptive reuse of heritage resources, with high-standard restorations planned for a cluster of historic structures. These include several provincially and municipally protected sites, such as the former site of Zhenxian Community School and Rong Hong's former residence.

Originally named Shawei, the village was established during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). It was later renamed Nanping, signifying a "protective screen to the south".
