Zhuhai's first dedicated "film and television extras base" opened in Shishan subdistrict of Xiangzhou district on April 23, marking a key step forward in forming a complete film industry talent supply chain in the city and creating a new platform for aspiring performers.

Jointly established by the Shishan subdistrict office and the Zhuhai Film and Television Industry Promotion Association, the base is part of a broader "one center, one platform, three bases" film service ecosystem. While the extras base focuses on recruiting, training, and dispatching extras, complementary facilities provide public welfare training in makeup, costumes, and props, while an AI plus online media base supports post-production and digital content creation.

Since launching Zhuhai's first "film-friendly neighborhood" in January, Shishan subdistrict has integrated over 80 shooting locations, built a roster of 572 extras, and attracted multiple film crews, generating over 10 million online views. This strong foundation enabled the transition from an ad hoc filming site to an industrial service provider.

The new base offers a graded, category-based talent pool using detailed labeling that allows for precise matching between talent and production needs. It offers free acting training to residents, creating accessible employment opportunities.

The launch aligns with Guangdong's recent policy measures to boost the film industry and Zhuhai's ambition to become a "Chinese film capital". The base not only fills a critical talent gap but also demonstrates how grassroots governance and cultural industry development can reinforce each other, giving more people the chance to pursue careers in film and television.
